Turn 19 is done, turn 20 is about to start. Time for a new update of the world as we now it.

It was quite a while since the last update and of course Dageraad has kept us updated of world events with his nice maps. But events these last few turns have turned up the heat in V87. So what are the major events of these last few turns?

- USA and Canada have declared themselves, and they have made an impression. Portugal is being liberated and even homeland Spain is under attack by the powers from overseas. Just as Spain was about to help France, who is suffering under the relentless attacks from Austria and Italy, he has been stabbed in the back and must surely return with his armies to secure his own borders (where are those homeland guards when you need them?). But the UK and France go to the rescue (with what do the froggies attack, when so beset by others?) and have declared war on the oversea agressors.

- Meanwhile Spain is also beset upon by Tunisia, who has just declared war on Spain. Algeria has been fighting Spain for some time now, and probably still is. But help is on the way, as Transjordan and Syria have entered into the conflict between Tunisia, Algeria and Libya where they wil surely meet eachother. This might draw the attention of Algeria and Tunisia away from the iberian penisula.

- Northern Russia is beset upon by the Northern European Alliance, a war they are fighting beside the war already raging between them and the Western European Alliance. Denmark has born the brunt of this attack and according to the desperate cries of its ruler the war is not going as planned. Is the Spongekiller following the yellow thing into oblivion? Despite all the wars, no cities of Nothern Russia have been conquered yet.

- France is still losing ground to Italy especially, but luckely for the WEA the Austrians are rumored to have had their armies slaughtered and the Italians armies have been corraled (boxed in). Can the Southern European Alliance afford these losses, because the east front, against the Eastern Europeans, also seems to be a hard one for them. Bulgaria again conquering a Yugo city and Rumania declaring war on Austria, how much more can they take? But then, this is also the question the WEA faces.

- The middle eastern area is still fighting. The UAE, surrounded by enemies, is still in the game. Border patrols are none existant, but xShinas has been liberated by the forces of Sjeik Kurrasier. But it is rumored that lots of UAE armies have been destroyed by the pesky Iraqi and Persian border raiders on their T34A's.

The main question is still: where is the bear?

One could flip your statement that no Northern cities have been taken. No Finnish cities have been taken by the bear either.

Do you mean to say that as the agressor in this conflict, as you were the one to declare war on Northern Russia, you are fighting a losing war? Even with the help of your allies who have also declared war on NR? Flipping that statement wouldn't reflect well in any way on your position. So you might want to reconsider your statement. :ranting:

Is Northern Russia still an active position ?

If not: how does the computer defend? Only building fixed defences and fortifications in AIC centres, or does it build LDB anywhere?

Does a computer played position build fighters?

And while I am asking questions:

Does city fortification defend against coastal bombardment?

I wouldn't know.....I have NEVER actually fought a computer run nation, at least not since game 41 and I don't recall.......

Earthling, I'll give you some juicy tips off line.

for Dageraad- The computer builds static divisions as well as ldb, laa. It also draws replacements.

yes fortifications assist against CB.

Field Marshal, it would be appreciated if somebody would come to me, rather than me have to travel hundreds of miles for a little entertainment.

I don't think cookiing is what the Brits are known for. You know what they say.

Heaven on earth is an American job, a British butler, a Chinese cook and a Japanese wife.

Hell on earth is a Japanese job, a British cook, a Chinese butler and an American wife.

Another version:

Heaven is a place where the cooks are french, the mechanics are German, the lovers are Italian, the police is British and everything is run by the Swiss.

Hell is a place where the cooks are British, the mechanics are French, the lovers are Swiss, the police is German and everything is run by the italians.

HEY! Those of us of German descent will come to your house and arrest you! We ARE great mechanics, though.

There is an old saying (by DE TOCQUEVILLE?) which goes something like, "To the French goes the Empire of the Land. To the English goes the Empire of the Sea. To the German goes the Empire of the Mind." (Lucky for me that this game is all in my mind!)

My German car is doing fine. And nowadays, when the Germans come over here it is to lay on the beaches, admire our paintings and smoke our pot. I am living close to the border with Germany and the relationship with the Germans is excellent. (Except when discussing soccer, as something occurred in 1974 that we Dutch have still not recovered from. Go Serbia!).

A lot of the reputation of a country in a language is left over from different times when the relationships between peoples were very different. Back in the time of de Tocqueville Germany WAS the country of the great philosophers and France the country of generals and emperors. That same time, we Dutch were not very popular in England, still shown by expressions as "Dutch courage", "Dutch treat" and "Dutch Uncle".

Maybe, if we ever make a Dutch tech for Victory III, it should require "beer"as an extra form of General Supply.

After recieving beating after beating the "glass bottom" Persian Navy avoided being sunk by airstrike. For a turn.

It seems the Persian Airforce finally did what it was paid for. After four missed fighter covers.

We are expecting they will be back, however. This time escorted by the other 3000 fighters of the Emirate airforce.

Meanwhile the Persian Design Bureau is conducting a desperate search for the missing plans of the "Sovietsky Soyuz" class Battleship.

Meanwhile the Persian Design Bureau is conducting a desperate search for the missing plans of the "Sovietsky Soyuz" class Battleship.

Instead of single layer glassbottom boats, the have upgraded their design not to two, but to three layers of reinforced glass. This will reduce leaking, thus making the ships somewhat faster due to less weight of water in these boats. At the same time, the glass will be clearer and mines will be easier to spot. The design includes 2 extra sailor with binoculars, to spot incoming bombers. That way, the crew might have time to jump overboard before the first bombs hit the glass bottom.

Other design flaws and lack of persian funds have made this project obsolete before it even started. One of the most important flaws were the plans for the 40,6 mm guns (never can get those numbers right, weird persian scientists). Next to that the dutch leader of this desert country never did understand that "cemented" armor plates had nothing to do with concrete, which he insisted had to be used for the hulls, around the beautifully designed glass bottoms.
